Recognizing a significant career pipeline gap for early-career biosecurity researchers in Southeast Asia, SEA Bio seeks to engage and empower young professionals.
*SEA Bio aims to balance a top-down and bottom-up approach to biosecurity. The top-down aspect involves foresighted planning by prioritizing scope-sensitive biosecurity and identifying critical GCBR interventions that are highly neglected and have high [expected value](https://probablygood.org/core-concepts/expected-value/#:~:text=Expected value represents the average, risk with an uncertain outcome.).*
The rapid growth of AI and synthetic biology raises biosecurity risks in Southeast Asia, where AI adoption is nascent but expected to drive economic growth, while research on AI-Bio misuse remains limited despite high agro-terrorism vulnerability.
Southeast Asia's under-regulated technological landscape heightens risks of pathogen misuse and accidental release, prompting experts to recommend a Regional Research Network for coordinated responses and pathogen-specific research.
Southeast Asia, home to 673.02 million people, faces high outbreak risks due to dense urban populations, rich biodiversity, frequent human-wildlife interactions, and extensive agricultural activities, leaving it underprepared for epidemics and pandemics.

We welcome a diverse range of involvement levels. Here’s how SEA Bio members typically participate:
Coordinating Committee: Members actively shaping SEA Bio’s direction and growth.
Active Members: Members consistently involved in SEA Bio’s ongoing activities.
Community Members: Members who stay informed and supportive, with flexible involvement.
